LEVEL is offering free, tailored training for people who work with or support LGBTQ+ communities across Calderdale and Kirklees.
The LGBTQ+ Domestic Abuse First Aid Kit is a short, practical session designed to help community groups, professionals and organisations respond safely and confidently when someone may be experiencing domestic abuse.
The session explores:
-
What domestic abuse is and the different forms it can take
-
LGBTQ+-specific experiences, including threats of being outed, discrimination-based control, and homophobia, biphobia or transphobia
-
The barriers that can prevent LGBTQ+ people from asking for help
-
How to offer useful and sensitive support
-
Basic safety planning and preparing for an emergency
-
Why telling someone to “just leave” may increase risk
-
Specialist support available locally and nationally
The training can be tailored to the needs of your team or organisation. Helen, LEVEL’s Community Engagement Worker, delivers each session and brings extensive experience of working with domestic abuse organisations and LGBTQ+ communities.
