I spend one day a week on the LEVEL project, alongside other LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing initiatives in Calderdale and Kirklees and my work as a hypnotherapist. This means my weeks can be very busy, but it is all work that I really value.
My time with LEVEL is focused on communications, so this often includes updating the website, drafting social media posts, or putting together materials to promote events and opportunities. Alongside this we are always planning ahead and looking for ways to promote the new trial project. My main focus is to help people find us, understand what LEVEL is about, and know how to get involved. As it is a trial project, we have had to move quickly in establishing a new brand and presence — which makes the communications side of things even more important.
Today I have the monthly communications meeting with John from The Brunswick Centre and Steph from WomenCentre, where we look back at what’s been happening and plan ahead for the month to come. It’s a chance to reflect on progress, spot opportunities, and make sure our messaging aligns with the wider vision for LEVEL.
The past few months have been particularly busy, with a packed Pride season across Calderdale and Kirklees. Pride is always an important opportunity to raise awareness and engage with communities, and it’s been fantastic to see LEVEL’s visibility grow. Now that summer is behind us, my focus is shifting to planning events for the autumn and winter months. This includes looking at ways we can engage stakeholders, build new connections, and keep LEVEL firmly on the radar for both professionals and communities alike.
What I enjoy most is the variety my role brings. One moment I can be immersed in the detail of a website update, and the next I’m contributing to bigger-picture discussions about where the project is heading. On other days, I might be supporting the team with presentations, developing messaging for different audiences, or exploring new opportunities to raise awareness more broadly. Both the strategic and operational sides are important — and both are vital help ensure LEVEL continues to grow, connect, and make an impact.
At the end of the day it is time to take the dogs for a walk, which also gives me time to clear my head. Working from home brings many advantages, but it is important to have clear boundaries and switch off!
